FAQ

  • A doula is a non-medical trained professional who provides physical, emotional and informational support before, during and after childbirth. We do not do any clinical tasks such as fetal heart monitoring, cervical exams or make diagnoses of any kind. Midwives are healthcare providers who provide clinical care at home, hospitals and birth centers.

  • My unique approach to doula support blends my background in yoga, psychology and holistic health. Including my time as a nanny, I have supported over 200 families– spanning across cultures, sexuality and gender identities, socioeconomic means, mental and physical abilities, and parenting styles. I provide comprehensive, trauma-informed care that supports wherever you are on your mental, physical and emotional health journey.

  • It’s never too early. When you feel called to reach out, let’s chat!

  • INope! I’m often booked months in advance, but it’s always worth reaching out to inquire about my availability.

  • My intention is to work collaboratively with your partner. They know you better than I do, and that shared intimacy you have is invaluable in the birth process! During our prenatal visits, I demonstrate hands-on techniques like massage, counter-pressure, breathing support, and position changes that can help manage labor discomfort. I share practical tools so that partners feel empowered to support you before, during, and after birth. My goal is to create a supportive team environment where your partner feels confident and you feel deeply supported. Whether you're birthing with a partner, solo, or with alternative support, I adapt my role to ensure you feel fully cared for throughout your unique journey.

  • Absolutely! As your doula, I will inform you of your pain medication options, physically support you prior to receiving them, help you manage any side effects that may occur, and provide emotional support the entire time. If you opt for an epidural, I will help you change positions in bed for your comfort and to encourage optimal fetal positioning and descent.

If a cesarean birth becomes necessary or you choose one, I will calmly talk you through what to expect, guide your partner in how to provide supportive care in the operating room, and assist you in the immediate recovery process. While most New York hospitals typically limit OR support to one person, I always recommend checking with your doctor about current policies. My goal is to ensure you feel informed, supported and empowered throughout your birth experience.

  • Yes, I do! I have experience supporting many families in successful VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) births. Our prenatal preparation and work together is crucial, so if you’re considering a VBAC or HBAC (home birth after cesarean), please get in touch– I’d love to have a free, no-strings attached conversation with you to discuss your options, goals and explore if working together feels right for you.

  • During a prenatal visit we will discuss your birth preferences in depth, practice comfort techniques, process any fears or anxieties you may have, discuss signs that labor is starting, and make a postpartum care plan. I will send personalized resources in a post meeting follow-up email as needed. Learn more on my Doula Services page

  • During a postpartum visit, we will discuss how you are feeling, how your baby is doing, process the birth experience if you’d like, and make a plan for how you’d like to use our postpartum time together.

For longer visits of 3 or 4 hours, my scope of practice is as follows: newborn care + education, emotional + mental processing, tools to support your recovery, babywearing support, infant feeding support, light household help, meal prepping, cooking, older sibling support and integration.

  • I offer basic lactation and infant feeding support, informed by my “Lactation for Doulas” education and doula training. While I have lots of practical experience, I am not yet a lactation counselor or consultation and will happily refer you to a trusted CLC (certified lactation counselor) or IBCLC (international board certified lactation consultant) as needed.

  • Yes! Once we’ve decided we’re a good fit, the contract is signed, and the first retainer is paid, you can text/call/email me as much as you’d like. Prior to your on-call window (37-42 weeks), you can expect an answer within 24-48 hours for non-emergent communications. Once you’re full term, my phone will be on emergency bypass for you so no matter what time of the day, I will respond promptly.

  • Please see my pre-customized packages here.

I also offer larger postpartum support packages, sold as a bundle of hours to be used within the first 12 weeks postpartum at your discretion.

I offer sliding scale pricing on a needs basis, prioritizing families who identify as BIPOC and/or LGBTQIA+. I invite you to schedule a free inquiry call to learn more.

  • If you have an FSA/ HSA, you may be eligible to get reimbursed for doula care. I encourage you to inquire with your insurance company.

If your workplace offers Carrot Fertility Benefits or another form of reproductive health reimbursement, please let me know– I can provide you with a detailed invoice and receipt to get you reimbursed.

  • I serve Westchester and Rockland counties, Manhattan, Queens, The Bronx, Brooklyn, Bergen county, Greenwich and Stamford, CT, and as far north as Newburgh and Beacon, New York. I also provide virtual doula support for families around the world.
